NEWMU PEOPLE

Andrew Gibbs R.I.B.A

Born in the Midlands I studied Architecture in Manchester following on to postgraduate studies at Oxford Brooks and London South Bank University, recently became a chartered architect as a member of the R.I.B.A. Following my studies in Architecture I went on to study Fine Art in Norwich. Influenced by the effects of social change in post industrial society. My work is centred on regeneration and celebrates often the unsung hero. I work often with the public arts sector through commission continuing smaller works for private collection.

"Having trained in Architecture and in Fine Art I realise that it is so important to have an intention, a philosophy firmly seated in the mind. My intention is to combine the two disciplines, to work within the ‘gap’ and search for a poetic fusion, using the potential of material to produce meaning within an architectural context.

The work itself should have a holding power, something that will embrace the viewer for a moment, inviting the viewer to enquire further. In that silent contemplation one searches for more clues as to the reason for the work and so unlocks layer upon layer the complex nature of the piece."

We are currently building and managing the Newmuseum of Contemporary Art and educational projects for Creative Partnerships Norfolk. We continue to collaborate to produce our own work art work and installations.
